We really don’t want to talk to much about Microsoft, but they send out so much disinformation we can’t avoid it. This is an interview with Bill Gates who tries to convince the interviewer that Microsoft is serious about security. But as seen in statements like: “- Gates: The idea of connecting all the computers in the world is a fantastic thing. But the basic standards of the Internet that do that are not well designed for the case where somebody malicious is on the network. With basic transfer protocols, with mail protocols, there’s no way to really identify who is there.” and “- Gates: A lot needs to be done, like the new mail protocols and the Caller ID stuff that we’re doing with partners.” clearly shows that they are not fixing the fundamental problems inside their own software. Instead they are blaming the problems on the Internet architecture and propose the substitution of standard technologies with technologies owned by Microsoft. Its clearly a very desperate attempt to preserve their basic business model, since everyone in the software industry knows that once something has become a standard its almost impossible to have it replaced by something better. Having lots of money to invest in marketing the replacement doesn’t help either.
